Spiritual Direction is the process of accompanying people on their spiritual journey. In the midst of this fast-paced world, people find it difficult to be aware of God’s action in their daily lives and in simple everyday events. The spiritual director is there to listen and reflect through conversation on one’s relationship with God. Gradually, you learn to recognize God’s tender and powerful presence in your life.

You discover that God has been waiting for you to look for this closer relationship. Father James Keegan, SJ describes spiritual direction as the contemplative practice of helping another person or group to awaken to the mystery called God in all of life, and to respond to that discovery in a growing relationship of freedom and commitment. It is an invitation to a deeper relationship with God, regardless of one’s particular religious background or practice.

Spiritual Direction is offered at St. Raphaela Center by people who are formally trained in spiritual direction with whom you may meet privately and confidentially on a regular basis during retreat and/or outside of retreat.

What is the process?

Spiritual direction is not really about being “directed.” In spiritual direction, you reflect on the experiences of your daily life. Gradually, as you contemplate, you may begin to recognize God’s tender and powerful presence in your life. You may come to realize how God fills every moment of each day and is truly with you wherever you are.

What is the fee?

Many people inquire about the fee for Spiritual Direction.  As a Ministry, we are sponsored and subsidized by the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  We ask for a donation for Spiritual Direction based on what you can afford.

The usual donation ranges from $50-$100.  Some people give more than this while others give less.  Money should never be a reason for coming or not coming for direction or programs. If you can, on occasion, contribute to the Supplemental Fund to support this Spiritual Direction ministry it would be greatly appreciated.  We are grateful if you can afford to give more.  Envelopes are available or you can speak with your director.
