The Prayer Shawl Ministry was brought to St. Raphaela Center by Sister Kathy Gazie, acj. Sister Kathy has extensive experience in this ministry. This ministry is a worldwide ecumenical ministry that began in 1998 as an outgrowth of the Women’s Leadership Institute at Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut. The purpose of this ministry is to bring together people to share in fellowship and to use their time and talents to produce prayer shawls that will be given away to help spread the message of God’s mercy. Prayer shawls may be given for various reasons such as grief or illness, to comfort those who need the loving Hands of God surrounding them.
A regular attendee says, “Prayer Shawl Ministry is another joyful excuse to praise God who gives us hands to knit. We knit to enwrap those whose hearts have been wounded by loss or other grief with our prayers and shawls. We knit to use our hands as a work of prayer. We knit as a call for prayer at all times.”
People who knit or crochet or want to learn this craft are welcome. This ministry will begin on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 10:30am until Noon and will meet the second Thursday of every month.
