Ignatian Spiritual Exercises

Date: July 19 - 4:00pm to July 28 - 11:00am

People choose to make this retreat for varied reasons: the desire to deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ, wanting to spend quality time in prayer and reflection, to learn more about yourself in relationship to God and to others, preparing to make a significant decision, or responding to the movement of the Spirit. Spiritual Exercises refers to the handbook written by St. Ignatius based on his own personal spiritual experience and that of others to whom he listened. It is an organized series of spiritual exercises that invite individuals to meditate on Christian faith and to contemplate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Although ultimately God is “directing” your retreat, each person is assigned a spiritual director with whom they will meet daily for approximately 45 minutes. Your director will listen to your reflections about how God is present in your life. S/he will offer Scripture passages and other materials for your prayer and reflection. The number, nature and length of periods of formal prayer each day will depend upon the ability and needs of the individual and will be determined in conversation with the director. Ideally retreatants will have some experience in meditative prayer, the desire to enter into prolonged silence, and sufficient self-awareness to recognize their own inward movements.
